Who does not like horror shows? The answer is no one. Everybody finds interest in watching horror shows. So, today we will be learning about The Haunting of Hill House season 2, which is going to be the prequel to the very famous The Haunting of Hill house.
So before proceeding with all the questions and their answers about the second season, let us learn about the show and its first season as this will give more reason to watch this show to someone who hasn’t watched it yet. So let’s start. Shall we?
Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House is one such show. It is a Netflix original and is based on the horror novel “The Haunting of Hill House,” 1959, written by Shirley Jackson.
The show is a supernatural, horror fiction, drama.
The Haunting of Hill House is an American series which tells about the Crain family who had to stay for a while in a spooky house, named Hill House, in the past due to some issues. After they witnessed haunting events there and left the place for the good they are again reunited with the house and have to witness the same horrifying events that they had witnessed in the past.
Though the story is adapted from Shirley Jackson’s horror Novel, it had many dissimilarities with the original book. Like the Hill House in the novel was named so referring to the hills around the place, whereas in the show, it is named so because of the previous residents of the house,i.e., the Hill family.
Many viewers and critics like it as it has no jump scare scenes that ruin most of the horror movies and shows. It is also liked for its storyline. And obviously, it has received a lot of appreciation worldwide.
A single season of The Haunting of Hill House has been released, and it has a total of 10 episodes. Episodes of the 1st season are very long and can go upto 71 minutes while the shortest episode has a run time of 45 minutes.
It has been rated 8.7/10 in IMDb, 93% in Rotten Tomatoes, and 8.9/10 in TV.com, which is pretty unusual for a horror show. Because the show is so famous and has got such good ratings, the news about the arrival of its second installment has created a lot of buzz and excitement among the viewers.
Netflix has announced the new season, and the makers have confirmed that this new season will be based on the horror novel “The Turn Of The Screw,” 1898, written by Henry James. This new season will be called The Haunting of Bly Manor. Also, this season will not be connected to the story of the previous season in any sort. It will have a completely different storyline with entirely different characters(that we will be discussing further).
Now, it will take time for the new season to arrive. But it will be tough to sit patiently and seek answers to the most critical queries about the second season after the second season is released. So, let us find much-needed answers to these questions.
But let us first see who will be involved in the making of this new season.
The development team involved in making and presenting this season will not be any different from the previous season.
Creator- This new season, just like the previous installment, is created by Mike Flanagan.
Executive Producers- The executive producers for this season will include Meredith Averill, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Trevor Macey, and of course, Mike Flanagan.
Production Company- Thus season will be produced by FlanaganFilm, Amblin Television, and Paramount Television.
Network- The Haunting of Hill House Season 2 will be available to watch on Netflix, just like the previous season.
Now let us find out when we are going to finally watch the second season of The Haunting of Hill House.
Well, here is some good news for all the viewers out there who are excited about the second season. The production of The Haunting of Hill House Season 2 had started on 30th September 2019, even before the first season was released.
The production finished on 21st February 2020(way before the lockdown was announced). Also, the show’s creator Mark in an interview, said that the post-production hadn’t been affected by the pandemic yet and that work is being carried out, as per the schedule, from home.
So, because the operations of the show are unaffected by the pandemic and worldwide lockdown, we can expect the next season to be out by 2020.
Mike has also tweeted that the release date will be announced by Netflix when they are ready. So there has not been any kind of official announcement. But it is believed that like the previous season, this season may also release in or around October 2020.
Let us hope that The Haunting of Hill House Season 2 releases as soon as possible and haunts us for good!
Now let us see whether the trailer is out or not.
Trailer: is the Trailer for the Haunting of Hill House Season 2 Release Out Yet?
Though the productions for season 2 of the show have been finished, the trailer isn’t out yet. This might be due to the final edits that are yet to be completed.
The trailer for the previous season was released in September, a month before the release of the show. So we can expect the same this season also. We might get to see the trailer and have more idea of the season by September 2020 or anytime in 2020.
We’ll be hoping that the trailer releases soon as it would be an indication of the new season’s early arrival.
Cast: Who Will Be in the Haunting of Hill House Season 2?
The Haunting of Hill House season 2 or we better call it The Haunting of Bly Manor will be different from the previous season. There will be no connection between the first season and the second season. This means that we will not be able to see the characters from season 1 in season 2, but we will be able to see some actors from the previous season.
The show’s creator, Mike Flanagan, is using his twitter handle as a medium to give updates about the cast of The Haunting of Bly Manor.
The actors who will make a comeback this season are-
- Victoria Pedretti will once again be in the lead role, but this time as a new character. She will play the role of Dani, who is a governess taking care of two unusual children.
- Oliver Jackson-Cohen, who starred in the horror movie The invisible man, will make a comeback in the second season. He will be playing Peter,” a charming fellow.”
- Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, and Catherine Parker(who played the role of ghost Poppy in season 1) will also appear in season 2. But their roles have been kept a secret for now.
We may also see some new faces this season like T’Nia Miller, Rahul Kohli will play the role of Owen, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Amelie and Amelia Eve. Their roles, however, have not been made public yet(except for Rahul Kohli’s).
Let us see what possible things we will be able to witness in the second season, i.e., in The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Plot: What Will Happen in the Haunting of Hill House Season 2?
As we already know that this season will not be based on a different book than the previous season and that this season will be named The Haunting of Bly Manor so we won’t be seeing any after story of the previous season of any sort.
Flanagan in an interview with Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that “the story of the Crain family is told” and that “this new season will be a standalone season with no dramatic and storywise connection with the first season at all and it will be based on the novel The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.”
So, the show franchise is renamed “The Haunting,” and it will be an anthology series where every season will be different from each other, and there will be no connection at all in their stories. But we can always find similar faces in all these different seasons.
Flanagan, in an interview with”Birth Movies Death,” said that this season would be even scarier than the previous season and that we will get to witness the best of everything.
According to the book, the season may take place mostly in an “old fashioned mansion.”
The story will revolve around a governess(Victoria Pedretti) who moves to the Bly Manor to take care of two orphaned children. She soon is convinced that the Bly Manor she is living in is haunted and that the two orphan children are ghosts.
If the season follows the book precisely, then the story will be narrated by the Governess. But as we very well know that the previous season was very different from the book it was based on, so we might expect some critical changes in the story.
The story is believed to be based on modern times like the previous season. This season like the season, would be very horrifying and would contain all the elements that were liked in the previous season. This also includes the scenes in which ghosts will hide in the background, no jumpscares will be used, and this would be as much of a classic as the previous season was.
As the readers of the original novel have debated for a long time whether there was a ghost for real, all the hauntings were right, or it was just the governess’ imagination and that she was mentally unstable. So this will be very interesting to see which side of the debate will this show stand,i.e., will the ghosts be for real or they would just be an image of the mentally unstable Governess.
The Haunting of Bly Manor will consist of a total of 9 episodes. It is also believed that the runtime of the episodes of the second season will be quite similar to the previous season’s.
The same novel, “The turning of The Screw“, was also the inspiration for Nicole Kidman’s horror movie The Others, which was released on 2nd August 2001. It is for this reason the show will be based on modern time,i.e., to avoid comparisons from the movie.
There is also exciting news for all the fans who are very curiously waiting for the second season, and we might be able to witness the third installment of The Haunting soon after the release of the second season. Netflix is seeming very serious about The Haunting franchise and is already planning for the third season of the show even before the release of the first season. This news is very believable as we have seen the team preparing for the next season even before the release of the previous season in the past.
There are still many questions about the next season, which are unanswered, and these can only be answered when the trailer of the Show or the Show itself releases. We will get to watch The Haunting of Hill House Season 2 or what we may call The Haunting of Bly Manor in the coming months. Till then, all we can do is wait and hope that this new season like the previous season, will do wonders and will raise the bars even higher.
